Joren Traveller - Sculptor

And Now -  Branching out into Oil Painting

Joren Traveller
Each year I travel to the South West to visit Utah and the Canyon Lands and am inspired by the beauty there. It seemed natural to try to capture that beauty with art.  Unfortunately, sculpture is not the medium to do that, so I began painting.

Friesien Fantasy

First I tried pastel, then acrylic and watercolor, and now I have progressed to thoroughly enjoying oil painting. To assist my knowledge of this media I have taken a figurative and still life workshop with Sherri McGraw when she came to Bend last year.  I am currently taking a course at COCC with Katherine Taylor and look forward to working with her again in the future.

I am also very fortunate to be a part of a small, knowledgeable critique group of excellent local artists  that have inspired and encouraged me to paint.

This month I have a show at Alleda Real Estate in Bend and will be displaying some of my recent painting as well as a few of my bronze and ceramic pieces.  I am also represented by the Red Chair Gallery where many of my bronzes and ceramics are on display for sale.

HDAL Members exhibit 'PLACES' - Paintings and Photography

Art inspired by Places that are Far and Near

Three well-known local artists present ‘Places’ - an exhibit of paintings and photography depicting places far and near where they each found their artistic inspiration. Vivian Olsen, Richard Frederick and Shelly Wierzba, all members of the High Desert Art League, have their varied artworks on display at Broken Top Clubhouse in Bend, Oregon from mid March- until May 14, 2014.

'Fruit Shop' in Bari, Italy
Vivian’s new watercolors and acrylic paintings feature colorful village scenes from her recent trips to Italy and France. She captures the charm of ancient stone arches and narrow alleyways in hill-top towns and coastal ports from her travels in France and Italy. View her website at www.vivianolsen.com.

'Transportation Italian Style'

Richard is currently producing fine art prints in Black and White, Platinum/Palladium, and Color - some on canvas such as the photograph shown left. His ability to produce fine art photographs derives from an extensive background in science together with an acquired ability to “see” the subject matter as more than a collection of inanimate objects. More of his work can be seen at www.fredfineartphoto.com

As an artist Shelly (below right) uses oil, acrylic, or watercolor mediums to create her unpredictable and creative paintings. She has recently narrowed down her focus to painting the central Oregon landscape and the human figure in oils. View her website at www.shellywiezba.com.

Through Redmond to Oregon Art Beat

Artist Cameron Kaseberg Makes Oregon Art Beat

Redmond artist Cameron Kaseberg has been pushing, playing with and refining the art of solvent transfer since his college days. It has been an exploration of the process brought to prominence in the 1950’s by Robert Rauschenberg. For Oregon Public Broadcasting it was a unique process and story that will air January 30th on OPB’s Oregon Art Beat.

For Cameron, the Oregon Art Beat story began at the very first Art in the High Desert festival (Bend’s nationally ranked fine art festival) and the first art festival he had ever done.  There, Cameron met artists who had been featured on Oregon Art Beat. “I was in awe,” he says. “It is a rare Oregon artist whom does not dream of being featured on Oregon Art Beat, and at that festival it became mine, too” he adds. Oregon Art Beat is an Emmy award-winning weekly television series produced by OPB. It profiles artists of all genres, and suggests upcoming events in the Oregon community.

The reality of Cameron’s dream began unfolding in May of 2013 with an unexpected call from Katrina Sarson, a producer for Oregon Art Beat.  Katrina had seen Cameron’s work on the Art in the High Desert website and was intrigued by the process. Within two weeks Katrina and the Oregon Art Beat crew arrived in Redmond to begin filming Cameron’s story. “I was a nervous wreck,” he said, “but the moment they walked in the door all of my trepidation vanished. They were amazing.” He said. Filming took place in Cameron’s home where he works, with a trip to Smith Rock State Park where he sometimes hikes and photographs material for his art.  “In one day we shot elements of every step in the process of making one of my pieces,” Cameron explained. “From photographing at Smith Rock all the way through editing images and putting the final piece together. The last bits of filming were shot as I was setting up for Art in the High Desert to sell my work” he added.

The Oregon Art Beat episode will air Thursday, January 30th at 8:00 p.m. on OPB. For more information on Cameron’s work visit www.kaseberg.com or through the High Desert Art League website. To learn more about Oregon Art Beat, visit http://www.opb.org/programs/artbeat.
